Math Tubs, Sweetheart Snatchin’ & Graphing!

Lately…

…we’ve been *obsessing* over our centers time because my kids are crazy-in-love with all the place value activities we’ve been working on from Cara’s Place Value Packet of Fun.  Seriously, a SUPER investment.

001

…we began reading The Borrowers after one of my pumpkins was thrilled to share that she’d seen the trailer to The Secret World of Arrietty

004

…I’m still living a snowday-less school year, and subsequently enjoying every bit of crossing off each day that passes on my calendar.  And really looking forward to April!

005

…we’ve been stalking that Sweetheart Snatcher!  As soon as the first clue surfaced, they were all Not agaaaain!!!!  It had to be the Candycorn Bandit!  I might need to make the clues poster-sized next year because now that they’re getting to be more proficient readers, they ALL wanted to read the clues!

006

007

I love that pic!  I sent three boys into the gym to locate the sweethearts, while the rest of the class peered in the gym doors.  So cute!

…we’ve been organizing, recording, and interpreting data!

002

Us teachers were pulling hard for a snow day on Tuesday, and I’m blaming my students for the reason we didn’t get one.  See graph above.

What we did with our snatched sweethearts…

008

011

012

…we learned about captions in Treasures this week while reading the story Cats in Art.  Afterwards, I had the students “sculpt” cats from playdoh and then make a caption to accompany it.  They turned out soooooo cute!  Tell me that orange cat doesn’t look eerily realistic!

009

010

…using Kathleen’s Fun with Numbers Part 2 to supplement instruction on tally marks since my kiddos haven’t mastered it quite yet.  Another GREAT, highly recommended resource!

013

I think that catches me up!  I’m very much looking forward to the upcoming three-day weekend and PTL that tomorrow is FRIDAY!!!!  I had my last formal evaluation of the year today (woo hoo!), so I’m absolutely deserving of an entire pint of Raspberry Chip from Graeter’s and a little GTL tonight.

In the meantime, it’s me, Katniss, and Peeta!!!!  They’ve just headed to the Quarter Quell and I’m DYING to know what’s going to happen!!!!!

We have had a snow day less year as well. I thought that with student teaching I would at least get one, but no such luck!

Oh my goodness, Abby... there is such a void in my life now that I've finshed The Hunger Games... It is amazing! :)

That pic of your kiddos looking through the door is precious!

I love the Hunger Games! I couldn't get through them fast enough but I was sad when it was all over because there isn't a fourth one :(. Now we [all the ladies at work and a few friends] are eagerly awaiting the movie!!!

Have a great night!! May the odds be ever in your favor...

LOVE the Hunger Games trilogy, and I cannot wait for the movie! Ahhh! Anyway, I also wanted to add that I feel your snow day pain, friend. I live in the snow belt, and we STILL haven't had a single snowday!!!

We've been snowday-less this year, too. One of my littles told me today that she never wants to leave school! Oh man...guess I must be doing something right!

I love the hunger games! Can't wait until March 23rd!!!

BTW I used your sweet number stories this week, and my littles LOVED them!!! Thanks!

Hunger Games is so great! I just had a final evaluation too.

Have you heard of Ron Brown's CDs? He has a bunch of math songs & one is "Let's Tally Man."

Your math centers look so organized, and I need HELP! I haven't found a system I really like for switching centers, rotating kids, etc., and I need a system for both lit and math! Do you have a post where you have already explained the organization piece or what are the chances you might make a post like that sometime? (I don't see any tags with organization...) My lack of a system is driving me nuts!!! Thank you!

The graphing extravaganza. and MOST IMPORTANTLY anything and everything to do with HUNGER GAMES!!! I'm going to be that nerd camping out in line to watch it opening night. :)

Congrats on last observation :)
I lost MUCH sleep with Hunger Games series during the summer. Finished all in a week. But now I want to read them again so I am ready to see the movie! My daughter and I are awaiting our Katniss inspired necklaces. I had to take breaks in the middle of chapters. The end of each chapter makes you have to keep reading! Good stuff (scary, but captivating!)

Thanks for the shout-out friend :) No snow day in sight for us here -- it would literally have to be snowing cats and dogs for us to cancel - and then it would probably only be a delayed start. I've driven to school (15 miles on the highway) going 20 miles an hour on glare ice and couldn't even see the hood of my car. It's 'diculous' as my little girl would day :)

Hi Abby! I just found your blog on Pinterest (gotta love it!) & I have been going through it for the past hour and a half. You have such great ideas & I can't wait to use them in my classroom!

I'm also curious--how do you create all the cool center activities/templates? Is it a certain software or program you use?

Can you add "Update other blog with pictures of cute kid" to your calendar... K, Thanks! Also, glad to see myself in the planner:)
