Tell me you don't just love a freshly laminated paper product. The smoothness. The ability to preserve your hard work in shiny plastic. I get a thrill just watching it roll off the press!
Which brings me to the fact that I did a lot of laminating today, and will therefore have a lot of cutting to do tonight. So, in addition to dust, my house will now be blanketed with pesky laminate scraps that stick to everything through the magic of static electricity. I'll be finding them until Christmas.
Overall, Day One in my classroom was a success in the sense that a) I laminated a lot and b) I made an enormous mess of just about everything. It's all part of the process, I guess - moving furniture, rearranging shelves, and pulling out an abundance of stuff from every container in my room.
Also, there was this:
When they cleaned my room at the end of the school year they pretty much unplugged everything from the wall and left it in a massive heap on my desk for me to sort through and re-plug in. Thank goodness for my husband, who made it his personal duty to unplug everything, untangle and sort every cord, and then zip tie them all neatly back in place. Best of all, my computer and printer are fully functional again. Amen.
| Ahhhhhhhhh. It's like a breath of fresh air... |
My bulletin boards are all covered in decorative fabric and bordered with ribbon, and I also worked on my new behavior chart for the "clip-up/clip-down" management system I'm employing this year.
If you'd like to use this idea (which could really be incorporated into any room), you can download the labels by clicking Rockin' Behavior! below:
I'm planning to add "Mrs. Mullins' Class ROCKS!" or, something to that effect, to the base of the guitar, but didn't realize it needed something there until I'd pieced it together. I will also have an explanation of the system via a document that will go in their "R.O.C.K.S" folder. I'll post it when I make it :)
Going back tomorrow for Round Two!
| PS. The child playing camera-shy above, is totally not shy when it comes to destroying my classroom! I mean, Matchbox cars were E.V.E.R.Y.W.H.E.R.E! |

Your behavior guitar is too flippin' cute!
Um- Just spent a catrillion dollars more today between Michaels and JoAnn's! I have a serious problem and need a teacher intervention.
Michelle :)
I use that behavior system and am in love with it.
As in want to marry it.
You're going to adore it too!
Pinky promise.

Abby, your behavior guitar is just the cutest thing ever! The kids and parents will LOVE it!! I cannot wait to see your room when it is completed.
Ok so that guitar is like the cutest stinkin' thing EVER!! Your like a creative genius! :) How does the clip up/clip down chart work? And how do the parents know how their child ended their day? I'm excited to hear more! And I LOVE the colored tubs you have in the first picture next to your little cutie... where did you find those?? I'm on the hunt for those!

@Elisabeth - the bins are called "file bins" and are in the Dollar Spot at Target right now; however, they are $2.50 :) Still a good deal!!!
I *love* your rockstar theme, especially your behavior management rockstar guitar! Ohhh the possibilities for next year! By the way, I'm a HUGE fan of your blog!

Aren't husbands the best!! They just know how to do everything well. My husband {and kids} help me every year. I don't know what I'd do without them. It sure makes my job easier.

Thanks for the info! Maybe I can make it to a Target. Closest one is 2 hours away but I would make the drive for those little babies for sure!! :)
I would love to hear more about how the behavior management guitar is going to work if you had the time! I'm in desperate need of a classroom management face lift! My email address is edelk@allonselementary.com
PS I think your ideas are awesome! :)
Bahaha - I totally have a heap of those exact same colorful bins hiding in my trunk right now. I'm not exactly sure where to hide them so my husband won't see how much I've spent! The guest bedroom is already flowing with Target bags!
I LOVE the behavior clip chart! So cute!
I wish we had access to our laminator over the summer! I bet they'll be a line to use it when pre-planning starts!
I am cracking up laughing. I just got home from spending the day in Amish country and had to stop at a Target. They had a lot of colored bins and some Pirate things, so I had to load up!! My car looks awful!! I use that behavior system and LOVE it!!
I am the laminating queen, too. I have been cutting things out right and left!!
BusyBees
I found some similar file bins at the Dollar General for $2.00. I'm redoing my classroom library and collected (wait for it)... 32 of them! Oh, MY Goodness!
I love that picture of your car! Too funny. I guess we're all addicted to school supplies and containers! :)
My hubby and I haven't quite gotten to the "ignore me when I walk in with huge bags from the Dollar Tree and
Target". We are still at the "what in the hell did you buy today?" phase. No bueno.

The guitar behavior chart, frankly, it ROCKS! So stinkin' cute!
@ Rachelle- that is too stinkin' funny.. lol! After being married for 6 and teaching 5 of those years, my husband doesn't ask anymore. If he does, I just reply, "you really don't want to know!" He understands to not ask anymore... lol! So funny :)

I think only teachers truly understand the giddiness of freshly laminated materials and colorful bins! My husband and I just got to the point where he doesn't ask for a total this year- he knows it's a losing battle for him!
Ha! I love it! My husband doesn't ask anymore since I started making extra money off of being a teacher! Oh and I live your banner! I just hung one on my windows yesterday!! It made me excited for school to start! ;)
Your room looks awesome, great progress so far! I still haven't been able to get into my rooms and it's killing me!!
Love the behavior guitar :)
Any chance you want to talk to my hubby about taking on that attitude... I got the whole "How in the heck did you spend 80 dollars at Hobby Lobby" speech last night :( and I thought I did well! Behavior chart looks Adorable by the way!

I had to agree with Hadar, HOW DO THESE IDEAS COME TO YOU!! You have such adorable classroom ideas!! And I'm so jealous you're already in your classroom and decorating!!
Can totally relate to your love for laminating. I laminate EVERYTHING!!
I love your guitar idea...and it is nice to see I am in good company here - I too am an ADDICTED classroom shopper! This is my favorite time of year - school shopping (for me of course, not for my personal kiddos) hehe ;-)
You're car looks a lot like mine!! Glad I'm not alone! :) I have been collecting the file bins, too, grabbing as many as I can when Target gets them in! Can I ask what you are planning to use your bins for? I have several ideas (book bins, organizer for myself, etc), but what are you putting them to use as? THANKS! :)
There's a teacher at my school that has an addiction to buying bins, trays, baskets, etc. Her room is so full that the custodians hate to clean it (especially when they have to do the deep summer cleaning.) Thankfully, I haven't gotten to that point... yet. Your theme is too too cute. Your class will become a little community quickly I'm sure.
Abby- You are ADORABLE! I love how your made your behavior chart match your "rockin" them! =) SO CUTE! Now you've inspired me to try to think of how I can do that for my theme! =)
I can't wait to get into my classroom tomorrow! =)

I would love more information about your ROCKS folder! I think I want to do that this year. Please let me know if I can buy it at TPT. Loving the theme!!
Thanks!

I am just catching up on your blog, and if you have me excited to go back!! So much to do, but it's always a fun time!
Also, jealous you guys switched to Singapore Math. EM can be so horrendous and I've heard nothing but great things about SM!
Your guitar behavior chart is "popular" on Pinterest :)
Just stumbled upon your blog on my travels and was amazed at this rockstar theme. Words can't describe how much I like it! Right down my street!!
Thanks so much for sharing the labels!

Your guitar is so stinkin' cute! It goes so well with my Rock n' Roll Classroom Theme Packet. I'm still trying to decide which theme I'm going to use this year, but your guitar is making me lean towards rock n' roll.

Love your stuff! I'm using it with my Rock and Roll Theme for fourth grade. Found you on Pinterest. Thanks for the link to the font. I'm making many of my posters with it.
I'm sure you have finished cutting out your laminating... but I wanted to share a trick my mom came up with. If you use a box cutter and a cutting mat, you can hold the blade still and move the piece you are cutting out. It saved me HOURS of cutting and prevented my little fingers from developing arthritis at an early age. :)
Hope you find this to be useful! :)

love, love, love, love your guitar. I am also doing ROCKSTAR theme in my kindergarten classroom this year. I tried to duplicate your guitar for my behavior plan. It turned out really cute. I will poster pictures of my ROCKIN classroom soon. I have used a lot of your ideas. THANKS SO VERY MUCH!

That behavior chart is "off the charts!!" :) love it!!
LOVE the guitar and I'm loving your blog! I will be using it with my 6th graders this year. Thank you for posting the labels. Is there any way you'd be willing to email the label with your name on it that I see in this post?http://theinspiredapple.blogspot.com/2011/08/organizational-binder-behavior.html
I really like how you personalized it and while I know I can make that piece myself, it will bug me all year that it doesn't match. Haha!
Thanks for sharing your great ideas!

I love the guitar!! My whole school uses that beh. management system and has for years. I share my K classroom with another teacher and we changed our theme to Russell's Rockstars and Gibson's Guitarists, so this is perfect! Thank you so much for sharing and making it so easy to print!

I love it! I just got hired mid-year and had to rework the classroom to fit my teaching style. I tried using the previous teacher's behavior management system but I needed positive and negative reinforcement. So I made this last week and I love how great it's working with my students. And the parents love it too! What font did you use for the chart?
